A SNP staffer has been criticised for a bad taste tweet describing the SNP’s luxurious election coach as the “gravy bus”

Sally Donald, a communications officer for Livingston MP Hannah Bardell, was pictured smiling with glee alongside the yellow coach emblazoned with Nicola Sturgeon’s face.

Her ill-considered tweet read “All aboard the gravy bus” followed by the ‘partying face’ and ‘zany face’ emojis.

After setting off on a three-week tour to highlight the cost-of-living crisis in the run-up to the council election, the coach even has the slogan “Ease the Squeeze” on it.

Ms Donald has now deleted her tweet, but not before Scots took her to task over the suggestion that Ms Sturgeon and the rest of the SNP are on the Holyrood “gravy train”.

The expression (for the benefit of Ms Donald and anyone else who has never heard it before) is used to refer to a situation in which someone can make a lot of money for very little effort.
