The SNP/Greens government has been accused of being “out of touch” and of making a “power grab” over local councils as it was revealed they overruled them on almost HALF of all planning appeals in the last year.

And ministers were urged to leave vital decisions in the hands of local communities instead of holding a “blatant disregard for local views.”

The Planning and Environmental Appeals Division’s annual report showed that 164 local authority planning decisions out of 367 were overturned by the Scottish Government in 2021/22, a rate of 45 per cent.

Argyll and Bute was the worst affected region as a whopping six out of seven decisions made locally were overturned by the SNP.

Other harshly affected councils were East Dunbartonshire, South Ayrshire, Dundee and Highland where the overturn rate was more than 60 per cent.
