Mr Sutherland added: “The SNP has continued to mismanage Scotland’s public finances, wallow in incompetence, renege on election promises and bang the indyref drum as a distraction for their catastrophic failures.

“Their conference will be a rehash of every conference they have had since they came to power. ‘It’s not our fault, Westminster bad, we don’t have the correct levers, leap into the dark of Scottish secession and everything will be fine’.

“With the war in Ukraine, the spiralling cost of energy, the recent death of a long-reigning monarch and a Scottish NHS that appears to be on the brink of exhaustion, no one, apart from the SNP, wants to add to such generational instability.
