NHS Highland is advertising for a social care assistant and a cook to work at a north coast care home which is experiencing a staffing crisis.

Sutherland area health manager Kate Kenmure revealed a fortnight ago that Caladh Sona Care Unit was on the brink of being closed temporarily due to “acute” staffing issue.

he told Tongue Community Council that the home at Talmine should have a 19-strong team of care workers but that seven posts were vacant.

And now jobs are being advertised on NHS Scotland’s recruitment website (jobs.scot.nhs.uk) for a personal and social care worker and also a cook.

The care post is being advertised as a Band 2 with a salary from £21,814 to £23,820 while the catering role commands a similar salary.

But, while the kitchen based role is full-time and permanent, the caring post is a staff bank position and is described as on an “as and when required basis”.
