The number of cancelled operations in NHS Ayrshire & Arran has prompted an MSP to issue an appeal for more support from the Scottish Government.

In January 2022, there were 10 operations cancelled in NHS Ayrshire & Arran, based on capacity or a non-clinical issue in the hospital.

By December 2022, this significantly increased to 71 cancelled operations.

And South Scotland Conservative List MSP, Sharon Dowey, reckons Health Secretary, Humza Yousaf, must urgently support NHS Ayrshire & Arran after the increases were detailed in a new report from Public Health Scotland.

Ms Dowey said that cancelling operations can be devastating for patients, and that staff must be supported by ‘significant investment’ from the SNP Government to ensure that cancelled operations are avoided.

She said: “For patients in Ayrshire expecting to head into hospital for an operation, it will be devastating to hear that it will no longer be going ahead as a result of capacity.
