SNP MSPs have been slammed after every other party at Holyrood except them backed calls for sewage system upgrades.

Record levels of wastewater were pumped into Scotland’s rivers and seas in 2022 – enough to fill 19,000 Olympic swimming pools.

But a Lib Dem parly motion calling for improved monitoring of waste dumping and investment in the sewer system wasn’t backed by a single Nats politician.

That was despite representatives from every other Holyrood party signing the document, including the SNP’s governing partners the Scottish Greens.

In total, 14,008 discharges were logged, up from 10,799 incidents in 2021 – with a staggering 47million cubic metres of waste dumped in our waters.
