An Edinburgh man was “shocked” after being pushed into water by a group of youths.

Andrew Shnitka, who works as a care assistant in the city, was pushed into the Union Canal on Friday. While he wasn’t injured, several of Andrew’s belongings were broken including his phone.

He described those involved as three young men on bikes, thought to be around 17 or 18-years-old. Police have said inquiries are ongoing.

Speaking to Edinburgh Live , Andrew said: “It was last Friday about 3pm, I was walking along the Union Canal.

“I’m a care assistant, and work with special needs people. I was with the person I support, under the bridge near Boroughmuir High School.

“All of a sudden, three young men probably around 17 or 18-years-old cycled past. I was standing closer to the water, with the person I support to my side.
