- Keep your letters short and to the point; preferably relating to a main news item or an article in the paper you are writing to.
- Tabloids prefer less than 100 words.
- Broadsheet the same but will go over 200 words.
- It’s easier to get a letter in your local paper, and they will also be printed in other papers in the same publishing company.
- Where possible back up your claims with links to websites, attached documents, etc.
- Don’t use too many strong adjectives.
- Get your letters in by 2pm.
- Put you name, address and phone number at the bottom of the letter.
- Send them to a few papers, but always in a new email, if you cc them they will know you have sent it to a few papers.
- If you get a letter in the paper take a good, sharp, no shadows, square-on picture, email it to info@scotlandmatters.co.uk and if you are on Facebook or Twitter post it there
