Keep your letters short and to the point; preferably relating to a main news item or an article in the paper you are writing to.
Tabloids prefer less than 100 words.
Broadsheet the same but will go over 200 words.
It’s easier to get a letter in your local paper, and they will also be printed in other papers in the same publishing company.
Where possible back up your claims with links to websites, attached documents, etc.
Don’t use too many strong adjectives.
Get your letters in by 2pm.
Put you name, address and phone number at the bottom of the letter.
Send them to a few papers, but always in a new email, if you cc them they will know you have sent it to a few papers.
If you get a letter in the paper take a good, sharp, no shadows, square-on picture, email it to info@scotlandmatters.co.uk and if you are on Facebook or Twitter post it there
