Fractured Union: Devolution’s Unintended Consequences

Welsh separatists Plaid Cymru have claimed that they should ‘learn’ from the success of the Scottish National Party in utilising the severely enhanced ability being in control at the Scottish devolved legislature, Holyrood, gives them to pursue their separatist agenda and apply these lessons to Wales. The SNP managed to persuade David Cameron’s Government to grant them a referendum on separating Scotland from the rest of the UK despite most opinion polls showing just 25%-27% support among the Scottish public for separation. The referendum was held in 2014 and returned a 55%-45% majority for Scotland staying in the UK.

Plaid has also stated that it takes ’very, very seriously the positive impact’ the SNP has had in Scotland.

Previously, Plaid intimated that they would definitely begin agitating for a separation referendum if there is another one in Scotland. Mark Drakeford, the then Labour First Minister in the Welsh ‘parliament’, tried to bribe the electorate by saying he would grant Plaid a referendum on separation if Labour were re-elected in the 2021 elections AND he would allow Adam Price, the Plaid leader, to be First Minister.

IN OTHER WORDS, LEGISLATIVE DEVOLUTION HAS INTRUDUCED A KNOCK-ON EFFECT INSIDE WALES IN WHICH ABUSE OF THE REMIT SYSTEM BY ANTI-UK SEPARATISTS IN ONE DEVOLVED PART OF THE UK (SCOTLAND) IN USING THEIR DEVOLVED LEGISLATURE TO PURSUE THEIR SEPARATIST AGENDA HAS PROVOKED AND ENCOURAGED THE ANTI-UK SEPARATISTS OF ANOTHER PART OF THE UK (WALES) TO ADOPT A SIMILAR BELACOSE AND AGGRESSIVE APPROACH TO PURSUING THEIR SEPARATIST AGENDA.

A SIMILAR PATTERN IS UNDERWAY IN ULSTER AND EVEN CORNWALL, YORKSHIRE, THE NORTH OF ENGLAND AND LONDON.

All of this resurgence of aggressive anti-UK separatism in Wales has only come about as a knock-on effect of the SNP’s machinations in Scotland. Events would not have developed in this direction if legislative devolution hadn’t been introduced, especially in Scotland.

THIS IS PROOF OF THE DOMINO EFFECT CONCEPT. IT’S REAL AND WRECKING A VERY DELERIOUS EFFECT ON THE CONSTITUTIONAL INTEGRITY OF THE UK.
