One in five NHS 24 recruits fails to complete the training course for the job amid claims the process is “too stressful”.

Figures obtained by the Labour Party show a high dropout rate among NHS phone-in service recruits in the past year.

Health bosses claim the completion rate for NHS 24 trainees is “impressive”.

But one ex-recruit claimed many of those taking the NHS 24 training course struggle and end up dropping out.

She claimed: “I previously worked with NHS Scotland in both vaccination and contact tracing and the training there was exceptional.

“But with NHS 24 no one worked from a set training document and sometimes you had two trainers in the same room disagreeing. Instead of teaching you the system properly first, you were thrown into emergency calls in a drama-class type setting but even then your heart was racing.
