HOLYROOD ministers have flown the equivalent of ten times around the world in the past 18 months despite their climate boasts, it emerged yesterday.

Globe-trotting Scottish Government chiefs made dozens of trips, including Constitution and External Affairs Secretary Angus Robertson clocking up more than 46,600 miles of air travel in 16 trips.

Politicians, often accompanied by special advisers and officials, have been on overseas missions 86 times since March 2022 when international travel resumed following the Covid pandemic, The Sunday Times reported.

In total, 25 Scottish ministers travelled 390,000km for visits to 29 countries in Europe, Asia, Africa and North America even though foreign affairs policy is reserved to Westminster.

Destinations include Japan, South Korea, Mauritius, the United States, Canada, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Singapore, Indonesia, and multiple European capitals.

It comes despite the SNP government’s Transport Scotland saying it aims to reduce the environmental impact of aviation, in line with its vow to hit net-zero emissions by 2045.
