The SNP government has been blasted after it was revealed that it had decided to push back the redevelopment of a vital Scots harbour again. Ardrossan Harbour needs to be upgraded so it can berth the new ferries being built at Ferguson Marine.

However, despite these vessels being scheduled to go online in 2019, the works to improve the premises have yet to even get started. And even though the Glen Sannox and Hull 802 will now allegedly set sail in 2024, they cannot be utilised in the North Ayrshire town.

We previously told how the project was delayed until 2026 earlier this year as it only went out to tender in 2023 but now this process has been paused to “deliver a refreshed business case for the project.” It means that the harbour is now unlikely to upgraded for another five years.
