A MEDIC warns the NHS is “falling apart” — with patients waiting up to eight weeks for an urgent cancer referral.

Dr Margaret McCartney said women who need to see gynaecology specialists were among those facing harrowing delays.

The Glasgow GP claims two-week waits for urgent cancer referrals to gynaecology are now taking “six to eight weeks”.

She tweeted: “Imagine being told you need urgent investigations but your appointment is 2m [months] away.

“Totally unacceptable. NHS falling apart.”

Scots Tory Dr Sandesh Gulhane branded it “distressing”, adding: “Early treatment massively improves survival rates so every day counts.”
