SNP ministers have been accused of having “no idea” if schools across Scotland are properly ventilated.
Lib Dem MSP Willie Rennie hit out after he asked education secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville to publish a running total of the number of air filter devices that are being used in classrooms.
The minister refused and said it was the responsibility of local councils to ensure schools met covid standards.
Air flow in the majority of classrooms is still being regulated by simply opening windows or doors despite plummeting temperatures outside – a position branded “absurd” by frustrated parents.
The issue has proved controversial with opposition politicians calling for an alternative methods to be found to improve the air flow in schools.
