New research has revealed the best and worst areas in Scotland for academic performance.

Glasgow has some of the poorest educational attainment in Scotland, with a combined average of 41.6% of students achieving an A Grade in their National 5s and Scottish Highers.

In contrast, Scotland’s best area for academic performance – East Renfrewshire – has 58% of students on average achieving an A grade (the highest grade) at National 5 level, Scottish Higher level, and Scottish Advanced Higher level.

The research, by international education providers Oxford Summer School, analysed exam results data from the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) for every local authority in Scotland, to discover which areas had the highest and lowest performances at National 5 and Scottish Higher level.
